A two day workshop on future upgrades of the LHC Interaction Regions will be held near Fermilab at the Pheasant Run resort in St. Charles, IL on October 3-4th, 2005. Upgrades of the IRs will be the central feature of the LHC luminosity upgrade, expected to happen around 2012-2015.

The workshop will focus on three inter-related topics

  1. IR optics, energy deposition and magnet design
  2. Beam-beam compensation
  3. Feasibility of crab cavities.
A working group will be assigned to discuss each topic in detail. Connections between the topics will be discussed in joint sessions of the working groups.

The goals of the workshop are:

  1. Set immediate and near-term priorities (over the next 1-3 years) for each topic
  2. Foster greater communication between accelerator physicists, magnet designers and superconducting cavity experts.

There are several good US LARP Collaboration Web Sites: Fermilab Accelerator Division, Fermilab Technical Division and Brookhaven National Laboratory.
